With the strong software trend when desktop applications are being migrated to the web and boxed software - to the services model, RIA-components.org extends the notion of Rich Internet Applications.

We strongly believe RIAs are not only web enabled applications but the ones that are hosted in a «cloudy» environments, provide business oriented interfaces via SaaS delivery channels and inter-operate with existing desktop or web applications via SOA API.

But no intelligent software vendors would release their SaaS Rich Internet Applications unless they had an absolute, bulletproof secure license management system. They need to know absolutely and positively their Intellectual Property (IP ) rights are secure. Regardless of how enlightened they are, they need to protect their family jewels.

So we see the following formula for the Rich Internet Applications :

RIAs = Web enablement + SaaS delivery + IP licensing

We introduce a new term for those self-sufficient applications :

RIAlet

RIAlets are Rich Internet Applications that are delivered via SaaS and capable to be controlled via IP licensing tools.

Seems simple enough, but solving it is not.
